Bursting with life and creativity, Berlin is one Europe's most inviting and exciting cities. From the extensive nightlife to the myriad of museums and galleries, Berlin also is a fascinating place in which to catch a glimpse of some of the 20th century's most recognisable landmarks, including the remnants of the Berlin Wall. In the west of the country, the city of Cologne is famed for its dramatic cathedral. If you are feeling particularly fit you can even climb the 509 steps to the top of the cathedral to enjoy amazing views over this most elegant of cities. An annual pilgrimage for many tourists, Munich's Oktoberfest is probably the most famous beer festival in the world.
In addition to its captivating architecture and culture however, Munich is also famed for being the gateway to the Bavarian Alps. The Bavarian Alps are an area of outstanding natural beauty, famed for the fairytale castles and villages that dot and decorate this mountainous region. Equally stunning are Germany's two primary rivers, the Rhine and the Danube. Lined with charming villages and valleys, both of these rivers wind their way through some of Germany's most enchanting cities and towns and so make a perfect choice for any driver seeking a less obvious route through the gorgeous Germanic countryside.
